Partners Working Together

The brigade area is surrounded by the Dandenong Ranges National Park. Any major bushfire in this area invariably involves a combination of public and private land.

Fire management on public land is the responsibility of the Department of Environment, Land Water and Planning through its fire management branch, Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic). On private land, CFA is the lead agency.

In effect, CFA and FFMVic along with its partner agency Parks Victoria share the operational responsibility for combating bushfires in our local area. This extends to using the resources of joint aircraft operations under the State Aircraft Unit.

We enjoy a close working relationship at the local level with both Parks Victoria and DELWP built up over many years. A small number of our volunteer members have been engaged in the past as paid summer crew firefighters by DELWP.

On the ground, fire crews from CFA and FFMVic work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for the local community in the event of an emergency. The local brigade is an active participant in Parks Victoria's fuel management program through fuel reduction burns in autumn and spring.
